God's
Promise
Hebrews 6:13-20
What does it mean when God swears on Himself?
No one is greater than God, so God could only swear on Himself.
Hebrews 6:13 ESV
[13] For when God made a promise to Abraham, since
he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,
With God, we know that when God makes a promise,
it is 100% going to happen. No one else boast this. However, this asks the promise,
"What did God promise?"
Hebrews 6:19-20 ESV
[19] We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor
of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, [20] where
Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever
after the order of Melchizedek.
We know that we have salvation because of what
Jesus had done. We have an “anchor for our souls” and that is talking about salvation.
But what do we need to do for salvation?
John 3:16 ESV
[16] “For
God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him
should not perish but have eternal life.
We need to believe in Jesus. This means living
in faith every day. We need to keep our habits of faith, rest in God's faith and
confess our sins. It also means sometimes to do nothing and wait for God to act
and accept His will. We need to run back to God when we fail like Abraham.
Hebrews 6:13-15 ESV
[13] For when God made a promise to Abraham, since
he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, [14] saying, “Surely
I will bless you and multiply you.” [15] And thus Abraham, having patiently waited,
obtained the promise.
Abraham had faith in God. Yes, Abraham made mistakes
and did some terrible things to his family and tried to help God in disastrous ways.
Because Abraham believed God and had faith in God's promises, he could endure. God fulfilled His promises to Abraham despite
mistakes Abraham made.
Being a witness measure showing that God is real.
That means living a righteous life. That means waiting for God and being faithful
even though the world shows something different to God's promises.
Yet, we need to remember that the God who promised
to Abraham is the same God who promises to us. God requires us one thing. To believe
what God has promised, He will keep it.

relate
this gratitude to God.
When we look at nature, we give thanks to God
because we know that God has created these things. In this, we can be sure that
God is with us.
It is easy to become spoiled and take it for granted
what we have. When we think of all the simple things that we have and what life
would be like if we no longer have it. Taking time to be grateful for little ordinary
things will help us to keep in perspective how blessed we are.
The ordinary things can remind us of God's providence. The miracles we read about in Scripture, the miracles we see are obvious
events of God working; however, God is working in the ordinary times. Much the same
God works in the difficult times. The Bible does not promise an easy life but
it does say that God is with us.
The biggest reason to give thanks to God is stated
in the Psalms.
Psalm 136:1 ESV
[1] Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for
his steadfast love endures forever.
For a Christian, the fact that God exists is enough
reason to give thanks. God is good and that is enough to give thanks. Much like
a parent, we are thankful for their baby. The fact that the child exists is enough
to bring praise.
The statement:” God’s love endures forever"
is repeated throughout Psalm 136 to emphasize its importance and truth. God loves
us because He is good. It is nothing that we have done that makes God love us. This
should make us grateful.
Our God is great and good. God has created all things and He knows you. Despite our imperfect lives, knowing God is enough to give God thanks. Don't count your blessings but look to God and be grateful.
