Feb 23, 2025 “The Greatest Blessing: Becoming Like Jesus”(John 13:12-17)

John 13:12-17 New International Version
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.
13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.
14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

The Greatest Blessing: Becoming Like Jesus
John 13:12-17
Jesus was a teacher.
John 13:13 ESV
[13] You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.
Many teachers will test their students to see how they have progressed in their in their studies. Jesus was trying to show his followers what they must do to be more like Jesus.

Jesus deliberately lowered himself to show what we must do to serve others. You have to humble ourselves with the right motivation and purpose. It is not just about what we do, but how we do it.
Many people will do ministry work or missionary work with the wrong attitude. The work done is perfunctory and only done for show. It is not done in humility or for the glory of God.

One thing we must remember is that Jesus gave up his throne in heaven and came down to us. We served because our Lord served us first. Even if no one notices or acknowledges our service, God sees it. The world tells us that our work must produce riches, gain and promotion. Yet, we know that the greatest blessing is serving and giving.

When we serve Jesus without wanting anything in return, we will experience the greatest blessing of Jesus. We may not be rewarded on Earth, but Jesus sees our suffering and work. Jesus served in humility and love, and so should we. We do this service to be more like Jesus

That is the greatest blessing; that we would be like Jesus.
May we live as a true follower of Christ. That we may be more like Jesus every day
