The Light of Christmas: Reflecting Jesus' Love
John 1:1-8

To feel the love on Christmas, we first need to know what love means. Before the romantic era, people married for advantage and not love. However, these days many people will say that they marry out of love. They might think love is that feeling you get when you fall in love. Yet, love is more than a chemical reaction in your brain. It is more than a feeling.

Adam and Eve loved each other before they ate the fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. They did not fall in love. Nor do parents fall in love with their children. When parents have children, they learn what love really is. Parents get no benefit from their children, but they love their children, nonetheless. Children can be very trying to their parents, but parents will continue to love their children. Parents do not love their children because of what they can do or give back to them, rather parents love their children because of who they are.

We could not understand God's love, and it took Jesus' coming to earth to save us. The Israelites knew the promises of God and His covenant with them, but that knowledge was not enough to save them. Jesus came as a person. He did not stay away from our painful world, but he came down and experienced life as we do. Jesus came in the flesh and demonstrated his love focus. God humbled himself to be physically with us as a man and show us how to live. He came as a baby and grew up like the rest of us. He was not spared any discomfort and not given any special worldly privileges.

John 1:8 ESV
[8] He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

John the Babtist might not have been the light, but he reflected the light that Jesus shines. In fact, if we love Jesus and understand what Jesus did for us, we will not be able to stop ourselves from reflecting His life. Living a godly life will do that. Those of us who have Jesus in our hearts cannot stop Jesus from shining through in our lives.

Let us remember the love that Jesus graced us with. We should not just celebrate Christmas as non-Christians do but love others as well as Jesus loved us.
