Dec 24, 2023 "Joy to the World" (Luke 1:51-53)

Joy to the World!

Luke‬ ‭1:51‭-‬53‬ ‭ESV‬‬
[51]  He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; [52]  he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; [53] he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.

In South Korea, many people celebrate Christmas but they have no idea what Christmas is about. Even non Christians celebrate this holiday.  This is probably because of the joy associated with holiday. Jesus birth brought joy to this world.

When we think of the prodigal son story, we see the two sons with different attitudes.
The first son like so many of us are only think of themselves and their enjoyment. The first son felt this way so much that he did not care if his father lived or not, he only wanted his share of the inheritance to use for pleasure.  That lifestyle will destroy us and damage our relationship with our father.

Like the first son, we have rejected God to live for ourselves. The good news is that God came as His son to bring salvation and rescue us from sin and death. This is joy to us to receive a gift we do not deserve.

When Mary found out she was pregnant she sang praises to God. Being a mother is not easy, but she believed in God and God's goodness.
