A Banner to Fight Under (Ephesians 6:10-20)

Message: Eph. 6: 10-20

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15sand having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

“A Banner to Fight Under”

Pastor Enoch Hanokh

  1. Be Strong in the LORD-vv. 10-13

  • The power of His Might
  • Putting on the Whole Armor of God;

Rom. 13:12 12The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

Ps. 27:11 11The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

Is. 11:55 55Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.

2Cor. 6:1-10 1We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 3We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed. 4But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, 5in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; 6by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, 7by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; 9as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; 10as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

Jer. 13:11 11‘ For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,’ says the LORD, ‘that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’

  • Wrestling against Powers
  1. Standing Armed-vv.14-17

14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15sand having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

  • The armors;

1 Thess. 5:8 8But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

  1. Praying with all Kinds of Prayer-vv.18-20

18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

  • Seeking the Face of the LORD in perseverance;

Ps.27:8 8When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”

Some Types of Types of Prayer:

Praise and worship, prayer of faith, prayer of consecration, prayer of commitment, prayer of agreement, corporate prayer, prayer of supplication, intercessory prayer, praying in tongues

  • Praying for your pastors

Questions:

  1. The Bible describes the Christian life in fight and battle metaphors. How do you apply the understanding from those metaphors to your life today, if you believe that they apply to you?
  2. How do we pray with all kinds of prayer and why?
  3.  Why do we have to pray for our pastors?
