1 Chronicles 16:8-12 New International Version

⁸ Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;

    make known among the nations what he has done.

⁹ Sing to him, sing praise to him;

    tell of all his wonderful acts.

¹⁰ Glory in his holy name;

    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

¹¹ Look to the Lord and his strength;

    seek his face always.

¹² Remember the wonders he has done,

    his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,

From Worship to Witness

1 Chronicles 16:8-12

 

In this passage, we read the praise King David gives to God after the Ark of the Covenant has been returned to Jerusalem. One thing King David says we need to do is remember what God has done in the past.

 

“ Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles and the judgments he uttered,”

1 Chronicles 16:12 ESV

 

We also need to remind each other and tell others what God has done. Worship does not just stay in us. Our worship should flow out of us. We do not have to reach a level of knowledge or competence to share about God has done for me.

 

“ Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!”

1 Chronicles 16:8-9 ESV

 

The goal of praising God is God. It is not the benefits which God gives us which we should love or seek, but we should love God for who He is. Seeking His face is more important than seeking God's hand.

 

Admitting that we are weak and need God's strength is important.  

 

“ Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”

1 Chronicles 16:11 ESV

 

The grace that God gives us should flow from us into our homes, our workplace into every facet of life.

 

The movement of worship is we seek His face, we receive His grace, we remember that grace and share that grace with others.

Sep 20, 2026 “The King Worth Everything”(1 Chronicles 11:15-19)

1 Chronicles 11:15-19 New International Version

¹⁵ Three of the thirty chiefs came down to David to the rock at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim. 

¹⁶ At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. 

¹⁷ David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!” 

¹⁸ So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the Lord. 

¹⁹ “God forbid that I should do this!” he said. “Should I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives?” Because they risked their lives to bring it back, David would not drink it.

Such were the exploits of the three mighty warriors.

The King Worth Everything

1 Chronicles 11:15-19

In this passage, we read about three heroic men who fetched water for King David by going through enemy lines. They risked their lives to give their king water after they heard the king said he was thirsty.  

“And David said longingly, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is by the gate!” ”

1 Chronicles 11:17 ESV

“Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and took it and brought it to David. But David would not drink it. He poured it out to the Lord ”

1 Chronicles 11:18 ESV

King David poured out the water to the Lord and would not drink it. He would not drink the water because his men risked their lives for him. David never intended his men to risk their lives over some water.

“and said, “Far be it from me before my God that I should do this. Shall I drink the lifeblood of these men? For at the risk of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.”

1 Chronicles 11:19 ESV

Jesus wants us to be obedient and he calls for us to sacrifice all for God. Jesus wants us to live for Him. This is actually more difficult than to die for Jesus. Yes, some people are called to be Martyrs, but those martyrs have lived obedient lives, and many decisions have led them to this sacrifice.  

King David saw what his men did and honored their sacrifice. Although he was thirsty, he poured it out to the Lord.

King David did not drink the water because the sacrifice was not what he wanted. He did not want to encourage his men to make foolish sacrifices to please the king. However, he also knew that his men did go to great lengths by risking their life to get the water, and he honours their sacrifice by giving the water to the lord. He turned their zealous but foolish act into a sacrifice for God.

“ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 ESV

Jesus sees our faithfulness and our sacrifices. Jesus has not forgotten us. Our King knows what we do and will not forget.  

We should not ask, “Will I die for Jesus”, but we should ask, “Will I live for Jesus?”. We should sacrifice as we live for Jesus surrendering everything to Jesus. This is the life that brings glory to God and fulfilment to us.

Message: “The Times Of The Gentiles”

Introduction 

Jesus at this point prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and the worldwide dispersion of the Hebrew people (the Word of the LORD in Deut. 28:64). This we know took place in A.D. 70 by the hands of Roman soldiers who were of the first part of the fourth kingdom. Jesus’ prophecy ties neatly into Nebuchadnezzar’ dream in Daniel 2 and Daniel’s vision in chapter 7. The expression which Jesus used is: “until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” By this He expressed the non-Hebrew or heathen world governments in relation to Israel.  

 

 Now the times of the gentiles is running out. What time is it then?

 

1. Israel shall fall by the edge of the sward
2. They shall be led captives into all nations
3. Jerusalem shall be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles

i.                 Until “the times of the Gentiles” are fulfilled

ii.               Because of vengeance against Israel (Det. 28:62-64).

iii.             For the mystery of the “fullness of the Gentiles” (Rom. 11:25; Acts 15:14-18)

a.      We must not be wise in our own eyes, (but in the gospel; the scripture) (Rom. 11:25-33).  

b.     We must herald the coming of the fullness of His abiding and ever increasing glory (Dan. 2:35).

2. We fail in our predictions based on observation of natural causes, but we pretend to be masters in this art or science and therefore persist in doing so. v. 55
3. Why don’t we persist also in observation for understanding of the present time(s)? vv. 56-57.
4. Standing before the Judge, vv. 58-59.
