"Who is Jesus? Part 2"(John 10:11-16)

 John 10:11-16

Jesus is the shepherd and we are his sheep.  A shepherd takes care of the sheep and Jesus as a shepherd will lay down his life for the sheep.  In the old testament,  many of the biblical heroes tended sheep. They took care of the sheep and stayed with them constantly.

Sheep are not very bright and have poor vision. Not surprisingly, they get lost easily. In order to follow the shepherd, sheep have to listen to the shepherds' voices. Moreover, sheep cannot really survive by themselves.  They drown in shallow water. Wolves and other predators easily hunt them down. They need protection.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25‭-‬26 ESV

Jesus is our salvation.  He gives us life and restores the brokenness that was created from the Fall. It does not just mean that we will go to heaven.  It means that your old past life and existence will be replaced and we will be resurrected with Jesus as new creations. We can live that new life now in this world. It means we can join the feast at the end when all is made right.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6 ESV

The way that Jesus is referring to is the way he lived. Jesus lived a life of sacrifice and forgiveness.  He did not live the typical life that puts Him first. In our world, where the smartest, strongest and richest lead and control the weaker members, Jesus opted to live a very different life. He led a life of love that sought out to understand His followers and let His followers understand themselves so they could restore their relationship with God when they see their brokenness.

Jesus was fully human and fully God. Jesus came down in our human form so He could talk to us at our level and talk to us about eternal life. In fact, what Jesus means about having eternal life is that the life we have now is eternal life once we believe in Christ. The physical death is not to be the turning point in your life but the death of your old sinful self.

Jesus is only the way to heaven,  the only source of eternal life. We can praise God for sending his son and allowing us to experience eternal life now and if we do not have this eternal, we can ask for it freely.
