"The True Worshiper"(Luke 19:28-40)

Luke 19:28-40

Jesus knew what was waiting for him in Jerusalem, yet he still went. The mission was more important than Jesus' safety or comfort.

And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
Luke 19:28 ESV

A general or a conqueror would normally ride a horse to show their status, power and ability to fight; however, they would sometimes ride a donkey to show that their intentions were peaceful. Jesus rode a donkey to show his intentions were peaceful and to bring about reconciliation.

And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it.
Luke 19:35 ESV

People who saw Jesus and admired him started to praise him.

saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
Luke 19:38‭-‬39 ESV

We were born to glorify Jesus. All of us were born to glorify God. There were two kinds of people who were here. There were those who praised him because they admired the hype of Jesus. There were disciples of Jesus who followed and praised Jesus not because of the hype, but they truly followed the truth.

As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen,
Luke 19:37 ESV

To be a follower of Jesus, we need to bear our own cross. It is not easy but Jesus has given us everything we need to bear our cross and follow Jesus.

Much the same as Jesus had prepared the colt for his triumphal entry. Jesus does the same for us.

saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them.
Luke 19:30‭-‬32 ESV

We have seem this before when God prepared the sacrifice for Isaac and Abraham, or the wisdom for Solomon. In all these cases, the people had to be obedient and have faith to act.

And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” And they said, “The Lord has need of it.”
Luke 19:33‭-‬34 ESV

Without obedience to God, God cannot help us. We need to be obedient if we are to have success. We may have the ability or the resources to do great things, but in God's kingdom, we still need to be obedient to glorify God.

A fan will only follow until the hype goes away. A true disciple will follow whole heartedly.
