You Are Never Left Alone

You Are Never Left Alone

John 14:15-26

All of us have experienced love, and have demonstrated our love through our actions. Love can come at two levels. The basic level of love involves sharing our time, pains, joys, experiences, gifts and ourselves with each other to build up the relationships with each other. At another level of love, we keep our promises with those whom we love. This advanced level of love requires dedication because broken promises can damage these relationships.

Jesus understood the importance of relationships and fulfilled the requirements of love with disciples. In John 14, Jesus promises that He would remain with his disciples no matter what. Even though Jesus would die, He would not leave them.

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:18 ESV

Jesus further explains by what he means by not leaving the disciples. The disciples are assured that they would know that Jesus is with them because Jesus not only lives, but lives with the Father.

Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
John 14:19‭-‬20 ESV

However, before Jesus makes the promise of being with the disciples, a condition is given.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
John 14:15‭-‬16 ESV

How does this Spirit come into us. . The scriptures show us clearly what does Jesus mean by keeping Jesus' commandments.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Deuteronomy 6:5 ESV

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Matthew 22:37 ESV

What does this mean?

When you give everything in totality to Jesus, you love Jesus. A person who seeks Jesus allows Jesus to take over all their strengths and desires. Jesus is the centre of your life. Jesus dwells in us because He loves us and wants us to help us in our journey, but we need to give Him complete control.

Jesus died for us and cannot afford losing you and me. For every believer who accepts Jesus, Jesus is in us.

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
John 14:23 ESV

The Lord describes the Holy Spirit as the spirit of truth. That truth is that we are the children of God. This spirit testifies for us.

even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14:17 ESV

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Romans 8:15‭-‬16 ESV

Jesus dwells in us to bear witness of Him and His love. Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us in heaven.

How are we getting along with the transformation in our lives. How do you allow Jesus to work in you?

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
John 14:21 ESV

Our growth is dependent on our obedience to Jesus. We cannot grow unless we respond obediently.
