July 6, 2025 "Teach Me Your Way, Lord" (Psalm 86:1-11)

Teach Me Your Way, Lord
Psalm 86:1-11

After we come to Jesus, we continue to endure suffering and struggles. Like the writer of Psalm 86, we need to call out to the Lord when we are in trouble.

The first step in prayer is acknowledging whom we are praying to. We need to confess who we are and who God is.

Psalm 86:8-10 ESV
[8] There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. [9]  All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. [10] For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.

In the past, people worshipped many gods, but the psalmist says God is unique and the greatest. The psalmist goes on to say that God has made all nations and can do great things.

The author says these things because he had a real relationship with God. His unshakable faith allows the psalmist to say,

Psalm 86:11 ESV
[11]  Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

We often go to God in prayer with our own plans.. We suggest a plan to God because we think we know best. We need to trust God knows best and allow God to give the solution.

The first step is to confess God is all knowing and will give you best solution. We can tell God what we want, but we need to trust that God knows best. We need to obey God's will.

When we obey, there is no failure. The writer of this passage understood this deeply. He knew that we need true undivided hearts that are committed to God so we can completely trust in God.

Even if our obedience does not produce good fruit immediately or it looks like a failure. We will not see the big picture until Jesus returns. When we do see the big picture, we will see how God's plan was best.

When we surrender to God's way, true peace will grow.

Let's make a simple and honest prayer.
Lord, I don't want to do things my way, but I want to do things in your way.
