June 15, 2025 "You Don’t Need a New Leader" (Judges 1:1-2)

Joshua was not chosen to replace Moses because he was better than Moses. God did not allow Moses into promised land and Joshua was elected to continue the mission of bringing the Israelites into the promised land.

In our world we usually think who will be the person to replace the old leader. God loved us and brought us here despite our sins and poor performance.

The real leader was always God. Moses and Joshua pointed people in the right direction. The lessons God taught the Israelites in the wilderness were to trust God and not our human leaders or institutions.

When Joshua died, the people went to God in prayer.

Judges 1:1-2 ESV
[1] After the death of Joshua, the people of Israel inquired of the Lord, “Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?” [2] The Lord said, “Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hands."

When they asked God what they should do, they showed their dependency on God. We live as we respond to God

God was not just giving out plots but shaping their lives.
The stories we read about are never about people. They are about God.

God loves us even when we fail and sin. God's love and grace is bigger than our faults. God wants us to be close to God.

Stop trying to be your own leader. Stop trying to prove your worth when God has already given it to you.
