The Treasured Possession (Exodus 19:4-6)

  Treasured possession

 Exodus 19:4-6

 

 

4. 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

 

 

5. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,

 

 

6. you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites."

 

 

Outline of the message: Treasured possession

 

I. God heard and remembered

 

1.1 Ex 2:24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob.

1.2 Gods covenant with Abraham                            Ge 12: 2 'I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

 

1.3 God sent Moses to Pharaoh (Ex 3:7-10)                            Ex 3:9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them.                  Ex 3:10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.

 

II. God carried Israel on eagles wing

 

2.1 Strike Egypt with 10 disasters:                                water of the Nile into blood, frogs, gnats, flies, death of livestocks, festering boils on men and animals , hailstorm, locusts, darkness, death of first born son; 

2.2 Lords Passover                                               Ex.12: 7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the door frames of the houses where they eat the lambs.                                                           Ex.12 :12'On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn-both men and animals-and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.  13The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

 

2.3 Israelites walked through the red sea on dry ground. Ex15:19

 

 

III. Code of Happiness for Gods treasured possession

 

3.1 You will be my treasured possession, kingdom of priest, holy nation (Ex 19:5-6; Co 3:16; 1 Peter 2:9)

3.2 10 commandments (Ex 20:3-17)                                        1. God comes first; 2. Never reduce God; 3. Be careful about Gods name; 4. Take a day off; 5. Honor your parent; 6. Respect human life; 7. Keep yourself pure; 8. Do not steal; 9. Be honest; 10.Do not envy.

3.3 Obey 10 Code of happiness in Christ.

Based on todays message, let us consider the following questions in sharing with one another the understanding and insight we have received from the Word of God. We are also encouraged to share with others how we want to apply the meaning of todays message in our personal Christian life.

3. What should be your relevant life style to meet your identity God told you to be?
